Well, Neil is doing well. He woke up in the early afternoon and seems to get better every hour. I, on the other hand, need some serious sleep tonight. Think I will turn in soon to prepare for tomorrow's festivities.
Goals for tomorrow: Must call Comcast about DVR. I forgot how much daytime TV stinks. Hang out at pool for as long as possible. Enjoy freedom until it sinks in, finally.

A Day of Wifery

Not even sure that is a word, but as my fellow M.Ed. graduates agreed, with a Master's in English you earn the right to coin your own terms.
Today, Neil had his injection for his back. His doctors wanted to try the injections again since the herniation moved when he fell on Mother's Day weekend. We are trying to avoid surgery so I am constantly keeping fingers, toes and anything else I can bend crossed in hopes that the steroids work some kind of magic for him.
Neither of us could seem to fall asleep last night, and we both hated getting up early for the 8 am appointment. But, we made it with time to spare, and Neil was only with the doctor's for a little over an hour. The injection is technically outpatient surgery, with an IV and drugs to help the process. He did well and is now sleeping off the meds while I keep watch in the living room.
I have one or two errands to run; however, my cautious side won't let me leave until he has woken up from this slumber. I don't want him to need some help and have to wait for me to get back. Wii Fit is also in my plans for today, but I think I will wait to do that too. I make too much noise jumping around... I managed to complete one of the errands online- I ordered the 30 day Shred DVD from Amazon. While sitting on my ass on the couch. Ironic, I know.
I'll update later I'm sure. Now, off to hunt and gather some lunch :)

Summer begins, as does the blog

Well, as I start the summer I decided to start blogging for the first time too. This summer is the first I have had free since I started teaching in 2002. Each summer, Neil and I have either moved across country or I have been in graduate school full time. I miss writing, and all the cool kids were doing it... I figured, "Why the hell not?" Thanks to my buddy JME for all the blogging advice...
The beginning of Summer 09 was amazing. Lauren and I spent Friday morning and afternoon at the pool in her complex, just hanging out and chatting. Then, we went to the Montgomery Gentry concert in town with Neil and our friend Reece that night. Neil's brand, VAULT, is endorsed by MG, so we enjoyed backstage passes and great seats. Even though it was in boonedocks and Lauren and I were hit on by rednecks, we had a great time. And polished off four bottles of wine in one day. Awesome.
Saturday and today were spent basically around the house. We have Reece as a house guest until his hot water heater gets fixed, and we went to FLIP burger yesterday for drinks and dinner. FLIP was started by one of the Top Chef alums, but I cant remember which right now. Today, we all slept in and went to see Angels and Demons. It was different from the book, but a more artful edit than DiVinci in my book.
Tomorrow, Neil has his final injection before surgery, according to the doctor. I will ask as nurse and driver for the event, but my main job will be limiting Neil when he tries to get up and moving before he should. I will spend the morning reading and waiting and will update this new endeavor tomorrow afternoon.
